Friendship is an important part of a child’s social‐emotional development. From our friends we learn to share, to listen, and to express our feelings. But most importantly, our friends give us a sense of belonging. Amanda & Kalea
I have been volunteering for Friendship Foundation for the past five years and it has been such a memorable experience. I first got involved in Friendship Foundation because I went to an event with one of my friends and I had such a good time that I knew I wanted to be a part of it. Through Friendship Foundation I have learned to be patient and just make the best out of every situation I am put into. It has been such a great place for me to have fun with so many amazing people! Some of my favorite programs have been MBYB and Hammerhead Beach Camp. One the most amazing people I have met is Kalea. We first met at the first beach camp I volunteered at a few years ago. We immediately started talking about how much we love various Disney movies. I remember being really scared that we would not have anything to talk about because this was one of my first events where you are one on one with your buddy. But I am happy to say that we had plenty to talk about! From how much we love Disney Princesses to how she loved to pull me into the water and under the waves, we made many great memories at Hammerhead. Soon after, we were buddies again at MBYB. She was in the second session and I was super excited to see her again after so much time. As soon as she got to basketball she came over to me and gave me a great big hug! This was such a special moment because I thought that she wouldn’t remember me, but she did and we immediately started talking again and shared more about our favorite movies. The next week she showed up in high top Disney Converse and to this day those are the coolest pair of shoes I have ever seen. This friendship means so much to me because it has shown me that the little things you do can make such a big impression on someone and I think that that is so special. I hope to keep growing this friendship that I have been lucky enough to have with Kalea over the next few years! -Amanda
