Hello, my name is Gavin Owen. My sister Kasey Owen is 20 years old and has autism. If you are unfamiliar with what autism is: "a developmental disorder of variable severity that is characterized by difficulty in social interaction and communication and by restricted or repetitive patterns of thought and behavior." Kasey struggles day-to-day communicating in ways that we can understand. Kasey is non-verbal, this is difficult not only for her but for her family, to understand how to help her. Kasey graduated from Mira Costa High School in 2021 and is now enrolled in the 4-year extended choice program. In this program, she learns life skills while doing it with her friends. Kasey would not be where she is today if it weren't for her amazing aide Shannon Macias from CUSP "california unifed service providers". Shannon has been with Kasey since she was just 4 years old. We are thankful every day to have such an uplifting, happy spirit with Kasey. We hope to see everyone at the Skechers Friendship Walk. ❤
