Meet Our Kids

Friendship is an important part of a child’s social‐emotional development. From our friends we learn to share, to listen, and to express our feelings. But most importantly, our friends give us a sense of belonging. Read about some amazing friendships that have been developed through The Friendship Foundation and by the support of the SKECHERS Friendship Walk.

Melia & Sammy

I’ve been volunteering for the Friendship Foundation for almost 4 years now. Throughout the years, these kids have enriched my life with continuous smiles and genuine joy. However, there is one boy, in particular, that never fails to make me have a grin stretching from cheek to cheek, Sammy.

I first met Sammy during the Friendship Foundation Summer Camp in 2014. We bonded instantly, through similar birthdays, interests, and the occasional random, yet hilarious phrases that he repeats every minute. Over the short week, Sammy and I shared many valuable memories together. He has a glowing vibe about him; he exudes a genuine spirit.  He constantly smiles and we give each other high-fives when he is my buddy. To know that I have made a positive impact on a child, who has difficulty in public settings, is definitely a reward itself.

I’ve treasured each and every moment with Sammy in the Friendship Foundation.  Each moment has shaped me to be the person I am today. Upon joining the Friendship Foundation, I intended to provide the children with the unconditional gift of friendship, but, in fact, it was the complete opposite. Sammy has taught me to be compassionate, understanding, and has given ME a lifelong friendship.
